LIBRARIAN'S VERDICT

The pinnacle of peated whisky. It is a technical masterpiece that manages to deliver a direct assault of smoke without ever sacrificing the delicate, sweet nuances that make Islay malt so special.

The Library Note

Ardbeg was nearly lost to history, closing multiple times in the 20th century before its revival in 1997. Since then, it has become a cult favorite. Its 10-year-old expression is bottled without chill-filtration, preserving the maximum level of essential oils and peat phenols for a raw, untamed experience of the Kildalton Coast.

Sommelier's Perspective

THE NOSE

A massive explosion of peat smoke and sea spray, followed by a sudden wave of sweet vanilla and zesty lime.

THE PALATE

Mouth-coating and intense. Initial crackling peat smoke gives way to salted caramel, black pepper, and a fruity sweetness reminiscent of grilled pineapple.

THE FINISH

Incredibly long and dry with a lingering bonfire smoke and a hint of dark chocolate.
