LIBRARIAN'S VERDICT

A modern essential. While it may lack the extreme age of some rivals, its high-rye backbone makes it arguably the most consistent and reliable choice for classic cocktails, providing a spicy structural integrity that 'sweeter' bourbons often lose.

The Library Note

Inspired by a recipe created by his great-great-grandfather Augustus Bulleit in the 1830s, Tom Bulleit revived the family legacy in 1987. By using a significantly higher rye content than traditional bourbons, Bulleit carved out a niche for those who wanted a spirit that was ' Frontier-style'—rugged, spicy, and uncompromisingly bold.

Sommelier's Perspective

THE NOSE

Bright and spicy. Aromas of sweet oak, maple syrup, and a sharp, sophisticated cinnamon spice.

THE PALATE

Smooth and assertive. Layers of toasted oak and caramel are quickly overtaken by the signature rye heat, with notes of nutmeg and dried orange.

THE FINISH

Long, dry, and satiny with a lingering spicy tingle and a hint of light toffee.
