LIBRARIAN'S VERDICT

The most luxurious entry-level malt in the world. While other 12-year-olds are light and floral, The Dalmore is thick, dark, and meaty—a spirit that feels far older than the number on the bottle suggests.

The Library Note

The 12-point stag that adorns every bottle of The Dalmore was granted to the Mackenzie family (owners of the distillery for nearly a century) by King Alexander III in 1263. Today, under the guidance of Master Distiller Richard Paterson, the distillery uses a unique collection of flat-top stills and a bespoke wood policy to create a whisky that is the definition of opulent, meaty Highland character.

Sommelier's Perspective

THE NOSE

Aromatic and citrusy. Strong scents of orange marmalade, aromatic cinnamon, and a hint of dark chocolate.

THE PALATE

Rich and oily. Flavors of vanilla pod, caramelized citrus, and warm spices are followed by a deep, coffee-like nuttiness.

THE FINISH

Long and persistent with a lingering warmth of roasted coffee and dark chocolate-covered oranges.

Sensory Profile

THE PERFECT SERVE

Neat in a heavy crystal tumbler. The weight of the glass and the richness of the spirit create a tactile experience that matches its 'regal' reputation.

Composition

Malted Barley
Corn
Rye
Spring Water

EXPERT TECHNIQUE

Initially aged for nine years in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, then divided: one half remains in the bourbon barrels, while the other half is transferred to 30-year-old Matusalem oloroso sherry butts.
