LIBRARIAN'S VERDICT

The industry workhorse. While other Del Maguey expressions are meant for thoughtful sipping, Vida is a technical tool—a spirit with a big, bold personality that is arguably the most important mezcal in the modern cocktail renaissance.

The Library Note

Del Maguey was founded in 1995 by artist Ron Cooper, who introduced the 'Single Village' concept to the world. Vida, produced in the village of San Luis del Rio, was designed to provide bartenders with an artisanal product that could withstand being mixed, while maintaining the ancient, wood-fired heritage of Oaxacan spirit.

Sommelier's Perspective

THE NOSE

Aromatic and earthy. Bold aromas of wood smoke and leather are tempered by charred pineapple and honey.

THE PALATE

Earthy and meaty. High-intensity flavors of roasted agave, orange peel, and ginger are balanced by a sophisticated mineral 'funk.'

THE FINISH

Long and clean with an elegant, lingering smoke and a hint of mint.

THE PERFECT SERVE

The 'Naked & Famous': 0.75 oz Vida Mezcal, 0.75 oz Aperol, 0.75 oz Yellow Chartreuse, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice. Vida's bold smoke is one of the few spirits powerful enough to stand up to the complex herbs of Chartreuse.
