LIBRARIAN'S VERDICT

Tequila as it used to be. It is unabashedly agricultural, celebrating the dirt, the rock, and the plant. A mandatory bottle for anyone who claims to love agave.

The Library Note

Produced at the La Alteña distillery by the legendary Camarena family, El Tesoro follows production methods that have remained unchanged since 1937. They are one of the last distillers to use a 'tahona' (giant stone wheel) to crush 100% of their agave, preserving the fibers and earthy soul of the plant.

Sommelier's Perspective

THE NOSE

Pungent and vegetal. Intense aromas of cooked agave, wet earth, and white pepper with a hint of green olive.

THE PALATE

Clean and spicy. A robust flavor of sweet agave syrup, black pepper, and mint, with a creamy, oily mouthfeel.

THE FINISH

Long, dry, and distinctly peppery.

Sensory Profile

THE PERFECT SERVE

The 'Batanga': salt the rim of a tall glass, add ice, 2 oz El Tesoro, squeeze of half a lime, top with cola. Stir with a knife (tradition demands it). The agave punch cuts perfectly through the sweetness of the cola.

Composition

100% Blue Weber Agave

EXPERT TECHNIQUE

100% Tahona-crushed agave, fermented in open pine vats with natural yeast, and distilled in small copper pot stills to proof (no water added).
