LIBRARIAN'S VERDICT

The quintessential 'workhorse' bourbon. It is complex enough to be sipped neat but possesses a structural spicy backbone that makes it perhaps the greatest cocktail bourbon on the market.

The Library Note

Reverend Elijah Craig was a pioneer and innovator who, as legend has it, began aging his whiskey in barrels that had been charred by fire. Today, Heaven Hill Distillery honors his legacy by producing this Small Batch, meticulously selected from 200 barrels or less and aged in 'level 3' char for a distinct, toasty depth.

Sommelier's Perspective

THE NOSE

Aromatic and sweet with notes of vanilla bean, fresh mint, and a hint of cold-brew coffee.

THE PALATE

Smooth and warm. Initial caramel and honey give way to a sophisticated spice of nutmeg and ginger, with a touch of charred oak smoke.

THE FINISH

Long, sweet, and slightly toasty with a lingering nutty richness.

THE PERFECT SERVE

The 'Reverend's Sour': 2 oz Elijah Craig, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup, 1 egg white. Its spicy structure stands up brilliantly to the acid and foam of a classic sour.
