LIBRARIAN'S VERDICT

The holy grail of craft tequila. Its savory, olive-heavy profile is unlike anything else on the market. It is not just tequila; it is a time machine to 19th-century Jalisco.

The Library Note

Guillermo Sauza, a fifth-generation tequilero, launched Fortaleza in 2005 to revive the old-world traditions his family (the Sauzas) had lost when they sold their big brand. Produced in a tiny distillery that feels like a museum, every drop is crushed by stone and bottled in hand-blown glass, creating a spirit that tastes of history.

Sommelier's Perspective

THE NOSE

Complex and earthy. Aromas of baked agave, green olive brine, dried basil, and lime zest.

THE PALATE

Buttery and rich. A unique texture (mouthfeel) carries flavors of sweet cooked agave, minerals, and a touch of vanilla (despite being unaged).

THE FINISH

Long, earthy, and satisfyingly savory.

Sensory Profile

SmokySweetComplexBitterFloral

THE PERFECT SERVE

Neat in a copita glass. To mix it is almost a crime, though it makes a Margarita that will ruin you for all others.

Composition

100% Blue Weber Agave

EXPERT TECHNIQUE

Stone-crushed agave (Tahona), fermented in small wood open-air tanks, and double distilled in tiny copper pot stills. Bottled with a hand-painted stopper.
