LIBRARIAN'S VERDICT

A technical masterpiece of blending for mixability. It eschews the 'heavier' notes of scotch in favor of a bright, sessionable fruitiness that makes it the ultimate party whiskey.

The Library Note

Created by Justerini & Brooks in the 1930s specifically to appeal to the American palate after the repeal of Prohibition, J&B Rare was designed to be lighter and more accessible than many of the heavy, peaty whiskies of the time. Its distinctive yellow label and green bottle became synonymous with the jazz-age party scene.

Sommelier's Perspective

THE NOSE

Fruit-forward and nutty with hints of green apple, pear, and a touch of honeycomb.

THE PALATE

Light and grassy with a balanced sweetness, notes of malted barley, and a delicate fruit garden character.

THE FINISH

Clean and short with a subtle, warming nuttiness.
