LIBRARIAN'S VERDICT

The most misunderstood whiskey in the world. Often dismissed as a mixer, it possesses a reliable, mellow soul that is a direct result of its painstaking charcoal filtration.

The Library Note

Every drop of Jack Daniel's is made in Lynchburg, Tennessee, at the oldest registered distillery in the US. Before aging, the new-make spirit is dripped through ten feet of sugar maple charcoal—a process known as the 'Lincoln County Process'—which removes harshness and adds a characteristic mellow sweetness.

Sommelier's Perspective

THE NOSE

Gentle caramel and vanilla with notes of toasted oak and a hint of banana.

THE PALATE

A balanced mix of sweet maple syrup, toasted nuts, and a touch of charcoal sootiness.

THE FINISH

Clean and sweet with a soft, smoky oak linger.

THE PERFECT SERVE

The 'Jack & Coke' is the icon, but for the true flavor, try the 'Lynchburg Lemonade': 1.5 oz Jack, 1 oz Triple Sec, 1 oz lemon juice, top with lemon-lime soda. The citrus highlights the whiskey's sweet corn base.

Composition

Corn (80%)
Barley (12%)
Rye (8%)

EXPERT TECHNIQUE
