LIBRARIAN'S VERDICT

A Highland masterpiece. It is one of the few whiskies that manages to be both heavily fruity and coastal-dry at the same time, offering a structural depth that is simply world-class.

The Library Note

The Oban distillery was established in 1794, even before the town of the same name grew around it. Using just two small pear-shaped pot stills, it remains one of Scotland's smallest and most traditional distilleries. Its 14-year-old expression is a legendary bridge between the sweet Highland style and the smoky, briny whiskies of the islands.

Sommelier's Perspective

THE NOSE

Rich sweetness and fruit—oranges, lemons, and pears—with salt and a hint of peat smoke.

THE PALATE

Mouth-filling and dense. Late autumn fruits like dried figs and honey-sweet spices give way to a smoky, malty dryness.

THE FINISH

Long, smooth, and oaky with a lingering grain and a final maritime saltiness.

THE PERFECT SERVE

Sipped neat in a heavy glass. The complexity of Oban 14 reveals itself slowly, moving from rich fruit to dry smoke, and is best appreciated without ice.
