The Library Note
Founded in Moscow by Pyotr Arsenievich Smirnov in 1864, Smirnoff pioneered the use of charcoal filtration in the 1870s. After the Russian Revolution, the family fled to Europe and eventually the US, where Smirnoff helped ignite the American vodka craze of the 1950s.
