LIBRARIAN'S VERDICT

The insider's amaro. Bartenders love it because it is totally unique—less syrupy than southern amaros and more complex than Fernet. It is literally fresh mountain air in a bottle.

The Library Note

Created in 1875 by Francesco Peloni in Bormio, a ski town in the Valtellina mountains. It is aged for two years in Slavonian oak barrels (unusual for an amaro), which rounds out the sharp herbal edges. Every herb is sourced from the surrounding mountains.
