LIBRARIAN'S VERDICT

The gold standard for nut-flavored liqueurs. It is unabashedly sweet but possesses a technical depth of flavor that makes it a mandatory component of a complete home bar.

The Library Note

Legend has it that in 1525, an artist (Bernardino Luini) was painting a fresco in Saronno and used a local widow as his model for the Madonna. As a gift, she gave him a flask of fragrant, amber liqueur made from apricot pits soaked in brandy. That secret family recipe has been passed down for centuries as Disaronno.
