LIBRARIAN'S VERDICT

The defining aged rum of Cuba. While many 'gold' rums are meant only for cocktails, Havana 7 is a structural masterpiece that commands respect when sipped neat, offering a smoky, dry complexity that is the soul of Havana.

The Library Note

Created in the 1970s by Don José Navarro, the 'Primer Maestro Ronero,' Havana Club 7 was designed to be a rum that could be sipped neat. It is a 'continuous' blend, meaning a portion of every batch is saved and returned to the barrels for the next year's production, ensuring that a ghost of the original 1960s spirit remains in every bottle.

Sommelier's Perspective

THE NOSE

Rich and multi-layered. Aromas of roasted coffee, sweet vanilla, and fragrant cedar wood, with a hint of dried tropical fruits.

THE PALATE

Exceptionally smooth and full-bodied. Deep flavors of cocoa, chestnut, and caramelized plantains are balanced by a subtle, smoky oakiness.

THE FINISH

Long and complex with a lingering warmth of spice and dark chocolate.

THE PERFECT SERVE

The 'El Presidente': 1.5 oz Havana Club 7, 0.75 oz sweet vermouth, 0.25 oz dry curaçao, and a dash of grenadine. Stirred and served in a chilled coupe. Its depth of flavor provides a backbone that lighter rums simply can't match.
