LIBRARIAN'S VERDICT

A cultural phenomenon. While cognac purists often prefer older expressions, the V.S remains a remarkable achievement in blending—delivering a consistent, high-energy profile that changed the way the world drinks brandy.

The Library Note

Originally known as 'Hennessy Three Star', V.S (Very Special) is the descendant of the first cognac recipes created by the Hennessy family in 1765. It is a blend of 40 different eaux-de-vie, aged in new French oak barrels to create a spirit that is as much at home in a nightclub as it is in a traditional snifter.

Sommelier's Perspective

THE NOSE

Hefty notes of toasted almond, brown sugar, and vine fruit, followed by a punchy oakiness.

THE PALATE

Lively and rich. Initial sweetness of vanilla and grapes gives way to a complex wood-driven spice and a hint of floral bloom.

THE FINISH

Medium-long with a lingering warmth of spice and roasted nuts.

Sensory Profile

THE PERFECT SERVE

The 'Hennessy Ginger': 1.5 oz Hennessy V.S, top with ginger ale, ice, and a lime wedge. Its bold, structural character makes it the only cognac capable of dominating such a simple mix.

Composition

Ugni Blanc Grapes

EXPERT TECHNIQUE

A blend of eaux-de-vie aged for at least two years in initial-use French oak barrels, resulting in a more forward wood influence.
