LIBRARIAN'S VERDICT

The bridge between Chianti and Bordeaux. It has the rustic soul of Tuscany with the polished structure of a grand cru.

The Library Note

Produced by the Antinori family (winemakers since 1385). In 1971, they realized the rigid Chianti rules were holding back quality. They declassified their wine to 'Table Wine' status to make it better. The gamble paid off, creating a new category of elite Italian wines.

Sommelier's Perspective

THE NOSE

Intense and spicy. Red cherries, leather, tobacco, and dried herbs.

THE PALATE

Structured and savory. Ripe plum, licorice, and espresso.

THE FINISH

Complex and tannic, begging for food.
